Light creates many different forms of beauty in nature.
The blue of the sky and the sea is a result of the scattering of light, while a rainbow is a natural phenomenon formed when light meets water droplets.
Light also meets ice crystals to create sun halos or light pillars, and reacts with particles in the atmosphere to paint colorful sunsets.
In addition, subtle glows such as airglow that softly embraces the darkness, the aurora created by the interaction of the sun and Earth’s magnetic field, and the Brocken specter where a large shadow and a halo of light appear in the fog, are all wonders gifted by light.
For our first challenge this September, the theme is ‘Light’, an essential energy for survival.
Light is said to be the soul of painting.
Through colors and contrasts, it creates form and depth, serving as the starting point for artistic expression that conveys different feelings and meanings.
The mood of a work also changes depending on whether natural or artificial light is used, and the temperature of light alters the impression of colors.
This is why an artist’s intention and emotion are always present in the light depicted in their artwork.
Painters throughout history have studied light from many perspectives and expressed it in their own unique ways.
Light is also regarded as a symbol of creation.
In the creation myths of many cultures, light appears at the beginning, marking the flourishing of humanity.
It has also been seen as a symbol of wisdom, truth, the source of life, eternity, and divinity, with countless stories connecting it to gods and deities.
You could express a story or legend about light through your artwork.
Light is an essential element of life.
It brightens the night through different forms of illumination, enables communication over distance through optical technology, and is widely used in manufacturing, processing, and science.
In the future, light is expected to play a role in data processing, secure communication, biotechnology, and medicine.
What kind of light comes to mind for you right now?
