The face is said to be a canvas that reveals emotions.
Expressions when happy or sad, surprised or angry, often convey feelings before words do.
Even small movements of the face, such as the gaze of the eyes, the corners of the mouth, or wrinkles on the forehead, can hold many meanings.
Furthermore, facial expressions that change with time and situation can be important clues for understanding others and connecting emotionally.
The theme for our first challenge this August is ‘Face’, a body part that contains various emotions and stories.
The face is said to be an attractive subject for painting.
Since the face directly reveals human emotions, it can contain strong feelings, delicate atmospheres, or even messages.
Also, there's an instinctive tendency to interpret expressions through others' faces, which is said to draw the audience's attention and lead to emotional connection.
The way faces are expressed differs across eras, and knowing the period in which a painter lived can make the faces in their paintings appear differently.
Animals are also said to express emotions with their faces.
In the case of dogs and cats, they communicate with humans by expressing emotions with their facial muscles.
Chimpanzees and orangutans, for example, express emotions with very detailed movements of their facial muscles, and even bears, horses, and elephants are said to show some emotions on their faces.
It would also be enjoyable to draw the diverse faces of animals.
The emotions expressed in painted faces are also said to have changed with the times.
In ancient times, faces were depicted as ideal beings, and in the Middle Ages, they served as tools of religious symbolism.
From the Renaissance period, individual personalities and inner selves began to be captured, and in modern times, faces are utilized as an important means of expressing identity, diversity, inquiry, or messages.
What kind of face comes to your mind right now?
