Fireflies are insects that beautifully adorn summer nights.
They emit a variety of colored lights, ranging from yellow to orange, green, red, and even in some rare cases, blue.
Their light patterns are just as diverse.
Some glow continuously, while others blink on and off.
Sometimes, thousands of fireflies synchronize their rhythm and flash together, creating a truly spectacular scene.
Fireflies can be found in a wide range of habitats, from rice paddies and rivers to valleys, and even in forests near cities.
Our first challenge this June is about the ‘Firefly,’ an insect often called 'nature’s lantern.'
Fireflies are known for their many unique characteristics.
They produce light through chemical reactions inside their bodies, and use this light to attract mates or lure prey.
Males emit light in two lines, whereas females glow in a single line.
Also, the blinking patterns and colors differ depending on the region and species.
Some fireflies can even emit light during their egg, larval, or pupal stages of life.
Fireflies appear in a variety of stories and legends.
There’s an old tale about people gathering fireflies to read at night, and a legend that says lovers who could not be together were reborn as fireflies, searching for each other every night.
Some stories describe fireflies as lights sent by the gods to guide lost children, or as lanterns carried by fairies living in the jungle.
You might have fun painting a story you know about fireflies!
Fireflies are beloved insects for many people.
Because they are active in the summer, they’re sometimes called 'summer fireworks,' and are also known as 'fairies of the night' or 'messengers of light.'
You can spot them in pristine natural environments, and their presence creates enchanting nighttime scenery.
So, when fireflies start flying around, various festivals are held around the world to celebrate this magical time.
