[Challenge] 2025. April : Let's draw Sheep
PENUP Main banner

Different sheep can look vastly different.

While we often associate them with white wool, there are also sheep with black, brown, or gray wool.

The size of their horns differs depending on the breed, and their wool ranges from coarse to soft.

Sheep can live alongside humans on farms or ranches, but they’re found in rugged mountains, plateaus, and arid regions as well, with adaptations that suit their environment.

The second challenge this April is about ‘Sheep,’ an animal that has played a significant role in human history.

Sheep have played a variety of roles throughout history.

Since they’re easy to breed and because they reproduce rapidly, sheep were often reared as a source of food, providing meat and milk.

Additionally, sheep wool has been used to create clothing and blankets, while parchment made from sheep skin was once used to produce books with turnable pages.

Even today, sheep continue to play important roles across diverse fields, including science, environmental conservation, and tourism.

Sheep are known to be social animals.

In the wild, they form herds of varying sizes.

And communicate with one another using sounds and gestures, exchanging emotions and messages.

Sheepdogs must also build a trusting relationship with sheep in order to herd them effectively.

It might be fun to draw not only the diverse behaviors of sheep but also scenes where they interact with other animals.

Sheep possess a variety of characteristics.

Generally, they’re timid animals and instinctively fear canines.

Their poor eyesight, however, makes it difficult for them to accurately perceive their surroundings.

Sheep can also behave aggressively, despite their gentle appearance.

That’s why the word 'ram' is used to describe a battering ram of a warship or a siege weapon.

What comes to your mind when you think of sheep?

From sheep living in different environments to those born from your imagination, try capturing them in your artwork for our second challenge this month!
