→Go watch now a video of 'January HOF @ROSARINI'
John Sloan is an artist who painted the landscapes of New York.
They say that he drew the views of the streets he saw and the figures who were in there very realistically.
His artwork, depicting the scenes of everyday life was full of the emotions and romanticism that the artist observed and felt.
It is said that those who look at his paintings feel a sense of familiarity, with a lasting impression.
Artist @ROSARINI, who has been selected as the first Hall of Fame artist of 2025 also shows romance and beauty in day-to-day life.
The artist's feeds are full of scenes from the mundane.
The projects sometimes portray the changes in everyday landscapes, while at other times, they highlight the value of daily life through the emotions and behaviors of human characters and animals.
In addition, the artist adds imagination to the landscape and coloring patterns to create a unique world full of differentiated inspirations.
We have to ask the artist how they came to draw these works.
So, let's start the interview with the artist.
Q1. @PENUP
Hello, @ROSARINI.
On behalf of everyone at the PENUP team, we’d like to congratulate you on being inducted into our Hall of Fame in January 2025.
Please briefly introduce yourself and tell us about your thoughts on selection.
A1. @ROSARINI
I grew up in the capital of Thailand, the city with the most congested traffic in the country.
I live with my family in my hometown in the northeast.
My family runs an auto parts shop.
A big thank you to PENUP for nominating me to the HOF.
I actually didn't think it would be me because I had 3-4 other people in mind.
I was very surprised and very happy at the same time.
Q2. @PENUP
You first post dates back to June 2023.
How did you find out about PENUP, and what inspired you to share your work on PENUP?
A2. @ROSARINI
I am a Samsung Galaxy Note fan. I started using it since Note 2, Note 4 and Note 10+.
I usually use the ss.note app to note everything in my daily life.
In 2023, my dog died and I thought it was my fault.
I thought of an app that I wanted to use for a long time but never had time to start learning how to use it.
Then I started, PENUP changed me.
Q3. @PENUP
Your art has beautiful colors and expressions.
What kind of devices and apps do you use to create your artwork?
A3. @ROSARINI
I use Samsung Galaxy Note10 Plus.
My main app is PENUP.
Other secondary apps are Sketchbook, ibispaint, Concepts, Art Set, Procreate.
Q4. @PENUP
You transcribed the beauty of the various scenes in your daily life.
Can you tell us how you came to pick up art?
A4. @ROSARINI
When I was a child, my teacher asked me, 'What do you want to be when you grow up?'
My first answer was 'Artist'.
My art grades were good all the way up until my final year of high school when I got the highest score in art for a science-math student.
When I entered university, I did not choose to study Fine Arts.
In my first year of university, I focused on practicing drawing only people, cars, trees, and buildings.
I didn't do very well because there were other subjects that were more difficult and I paid more attention to.
And when I started working for decades, I only used AutoCAD and SketchUp.
I hardly drew anything, so I thought I had lost all my drawing skills.
When I was studying digital art and PENUP, I felt like I was learning how to draw and use a whole new set of tools. Luckily, my drawing skills were still there. Art is probably in my blood : )
Q5. @PENUP
Some of your art includes various scenes of the streets.
Can you tell us why you paint landscapes?
And can you share the charm of the landscape art that appeals to you?
A5. @ROSARINI
Many journeys and many hours spent on the road for decades, it is in my eyes, my memories and my mind.
The image of the journey from the Chao Phraya River in the middle of a big city, tall buildings, heavy traffic, starting to unfold into a wide plain, entering a plateau, then becoming a complex mountain range, entering a tributary river that flows into the Mekong River.
This is the route that I used to have to take regularly.
What impresses me on every journey is sunlight and the shadows of objects that block the path of light.
Because sunlight never stops, so do shadows.
These things make still objects seem to move with the passage of time.
This is the charm that I see.
Q6. @PENUP
And some of your projects depicted the changes in clouds.
Can you tell us what inspired these projects?
A6. @ROSARINI
I am a Buddhist who tries to give alms to monks every morning if possible.
While waiting for the monks to come for alms, I observed the sky towards the east during winter.
The first rays of the rising sun have more shades than usual and are much more beautiful than in other seasons.
Like the first rays, the last rays are also impressive.
As I learned about digital art, I found that it was much more realistic to reproduce natural light than any of the paints we have been using for a long time.
I tried to find my own way to reproduce natural light, inspired by my PENUP friends who each have their own unique way of lighting and coloring their paintings.
I enjoyed observing my friends' unique work and the way they light and color their paintings.
Q7. @PENUP
And we have portraits of various characters.
This makes us wonder why you painted portrait projects.
A7. @ROSARINI
For this portrait topic, I was totally inspired by my PENUP friends.
I tried drawing, experimented with different brushes, used people close to me as models and reference images, and the result was, I thought, 'Hmm... I can draw too : )'
Q8. @PENUP
We could also find some projects featuring animals like dogs and cats.
Can you tell us why you painted these animal projects?
And what is your favorite animal to pain?
A8. @ROSARINI
I've been considering for a while whether I should keep the dog or get a cat.
I haven't decided yet, I've tried drawing different breeds to see which one I like the most.
However, I've never had a cat and I want to.
When I think about the day each of my dogs die, how many times will I have to be sad?
Right now, I just want to draw them to relieve my longing for Bearry.
Q9. @PENUP
Many of your projects feature vehicles, like automobiles or motorcycles.
What do you think makes them so fascinating as an object in your art?
In addition, are there other themes you want to try later?
Can you share it with us?
A9. @ROSARINI
Since my family runs an auto parts shop, I tend to draw things around me, things I’m familiar with.
Even though there are small parts around me, I feel familiar with them, I feel relaxed and comfortable when I draw them.
I can draw any brand, they all have beautiful shapes and colors.
There are still many projects I want to do, both things I haven’t drawn yet (which is really a lot) and things I’ve drawn but haven’t had enough variety yet.
Besides people, cars, trees and buildings, which are what I will continue to draw, I have some rough projects like urban sketch with watercolor brushes, on the table, living room, dining room, backyard, underwater, transparent objects, water reflections, animals, and more challenging topics.
If it's a topic that I like, I'll make it a whole project.
Q10. @PENUP
Last question.
Please let us know if there is anything you would like to see improved while using PENUP, or if there is anything you would like to say.
A10. @ROSARINI
Actually, PENUP is improving and getting better all the time, but I really want to have perspective drawing tools, and when there are new stamp brushes, I want to make my own stamp brushes and share them with my friends in PENUP.
Thanks to these questions, questions I never asked myself, I understood where my art came from and why I drew.
I never cared much about why some people drew.
I searched for the meaning of fine art.
Today I understand.
Lastly, I would like to thank PENUP, PENPLE, and all my lovely friends who have been my encouragement and inspiration.
I really appreciate all the hearts and compliments.
Best wishes to PENUP PENPLE and all my dear friends.
Happy New Year 2025.
