White snow can transform a landscape with an entirely different look.
It piles up on buildings, turning the city white, and sometimes snow can bloom like flowers on tree branches, creating a wintery landscape straight out of a fantasy novel.
When snow falls on a road, it creates a trail that appears untouched, and when it falls on beaches and lakes, it can create truly unique landscapes.
Of course, snow can be hugely entertaining as well.
You can use it to build a snowman or have snowball fights, or you can grab some skis or a sled to slide down a snowy slope.
For our first challenge this December, we’d like you to paint something about ‘Snow’, which is created when the moisture in clouds freezes over.
Snowflakes come in countless different shapes.
When a snowflake is created, each has a symmetrical and geometrical shape due to the condensation of dust into a snow nucleus.
Although the hexagonal snowflake is the one people are most familiar with, snowflakes come in a variety of patterns.
In fact, no two snowflakes will have the same shape.
In particular, snowflakes become more complex in their structure and shape during heavy snow when there’s more moisture in the air.
Snow also falls in different ways.
Sometimes, when snow meets a powerful gust of wind, it can make for a powerful blizzard.
Or snow can just come down gently like it's in slow motion.
Depending on the weather, it may pour down with rain, and sometimes, you’ll see snow that feels more like tiny grains of rice that roll around on the ground.
All in all, we think it’ll be fun to draw landscapes created by different types of snow.
Snow can have different colors as well.
In some desert areas, sand mixes with snow from the sky, resulting in snow that looks yellow or pink.
There are places in glacial regions and Greenland where light reflects in snow, making it look blue, and there are other places where you can see green snow created by green algae growing in the snow.
So, what comes to your mind when you think of snow?
You could paint anything from snowy landscapes to your very own snowflake.
