French painter Berthe Morisot
was a female painter and renowned
figure in Impressionist painting.
She captured moments of her
inner self and everyday life,
creating bright and vibrant works
that naturally expressed the flow
of light with delicate yet
powerful brushstrokes.
The different themes in Morisot’s
work help convey new artistic
perspectives and sensibilities to
the audience, which is why she
remains a beloved artist to many.
@Andreia, who was elected to the
Hall of Fame this June,
also captures beautiful moments in
everyday life filled with light,
much like Morisot.
Her feed features
a variety of works.
Using light and darkness, @Andreia adds depth
and perspective to convey emotions,
and she shares her unique
perspective with the audience.
Each work focuses on distinct topics
and contains unique expressions,
giving the viewer the feeling of
being transported to a new world.
We can't wait to ask @Andreia
about artworks through an interview.
Now, let us begin
our interview with the artist.
Q1. @PENUP
Hello, @Andreia.
This is the operations team
from PENUP.
First of all,
congratulations on being selected
for the Hall of Fame in June 2024.
Please briefly introduce yourself
and tell us your thoughts
on selection.
A1. @Andreia
Hello PENUP team and friends!!!
I am so honored to have been
chosen for the June HOF.
I sincerely thank you all for
the support I have received.
I am Andreia, I am from Brazil.
I work for a company owned by
the State of Sao Paulo with my
husband and I am also a beautician
for advanced treatments.
Q2. @PENUP
You uploaded your first piece
back in November 2021.
We are curious how you found out
about PENUP and how you came to
upload your work.
A2. @Andreia
Firstly, I must say that the second
painting was a collaboration with
my friend @Allthingscollors.
I discovered PENUP when I bought
the Tab A8 with S-Pen for
university studies.
Then one day I saw the app
and decided to join.
I tested it, and I liked it.
I loved the community
and I haven't stopped since.
Q3. @PENUP
You’re known for some beautifully
colored works on a diverse range of
subjects.
Can you tell us what devices
and apps you like to use to create
your work?
A3. @Andreia
I use GalaxyTabS6 and the Infinite Painter,
Ibis Paint and PENUP apps.
Q4. @PENUP
Your feed has everything from
people, animals, and landscapes.
What motivated you to draw and paint
in the beginning?
A4. @Andreia
My mother was my biggest supporter
when she bought a children's watercolor.
I was 3 years old.
At 5 years old I was already
able to copy comic book characters.
When I was older, at school,
the art teacher encouraged me
to continue drawing and introduced
me to charcoal.
I fell in love with charcoal
drawings, because always in my mind
when I paint or draw, I only see
light and shadow, and then the shape
is created.
Q5. @PENUP
We see a variety of people
in your work.
We’re curious as to
why these characters become
a part of your paintings.
Also, we’d like to ask what type
of people feature in your work.
A5. @Andreia
When I see people who, in a certain
way, catches my attention by
transmitting their emotions, I try
to capture it through my paintings.
In fact, I always see the look
first, I feel it, and then
I transform it into paintings.
I love life, living things,
so any type of person can appear
in my paintings as long as they
convey some type of feeling to me.
Q6. @PENUP
You see plenty of sceneries
and landscapes on your feed as well.
Why do you paint landscapes
and what kind of scenery
do you like to draw?
A6. @Andreia
I never considered myself good
at painting landscapes.
But my dear friends @Branka
(great abstract artist) and
@Laporte (amazing cartoonist talent)
encouraged me by telling me that
I could paint anything and create
anything.
Nature is very complex,
so how can you convey so much
emotion in a painting?
Nature has a lot to tell us.
Just look carefully.
So I started to also look through
light and shadow and I've been
trying to capture these
nature feelings.
Nature is beautiful,
I like to paint everything,
any scenery.
Q7. @PENUP
And of course,
we need to talk about
all the animals you paint.
What animals do you like painting
the most, and can you tell us
which animal really moves you
on a personal level?
A7. @Andreia
I love all kind of animal,
they will always be present
in my paintings.
I especially love parrots,
I had a parrot (she flew away)
called Tata, who was always
my biggest inspiration.
Nowadays she would be 17 years old!
Q8. @PENUP
The way you use light and shadow
to express different emotions
and themes is very impressive.
Is there a type of impression
or technique you pay extra attention
to when you’re painting?
A8. @Andreia
In fact, when I paint I only see
light and shadow that convey
different emotions.
There is no technique for me,
just letting it flow.
but I will always highlight
the look, and use watercolors
or oil brushes.
Q9. @PENUP
From changes in painting techniques
to abstract feelings expressed
through different colors, your art
appears to find inspiration from
a variety of sources.
What emotion or feeling do you want
to express?
And where do you find inspiration?
Also, are there any themes or styles
you'd like to try in the future?
A9. @Andreia
For the record, the second painting
was a collaboration with
the wonderful artist @AntoineKhanji.
Life inspires me, everyday life,
the hidden beauty of simple things,
this is the type of feeling
I like to convey.
As feelings are transitory,
when you put them in paintings,
you immortalize them.
I like to try new techniques,
themes and styles every day.
It's great to learn and apply
this to art.
But lately I am inspiring
by Ghibli landscapes.
Q10. @PENUP
Last question.
Please tell us
improvements or comments
you want to share with us
while using PENUP.
A10. @Andreia
PENUP added some great brushes
that I absolutely loved.
If possible in a new update,
I would like to see canvas textures,
the painting experience makes it
more immersive.
I would also like a more restrictive
way to prevent new users
who misappropriate the art of
other artists, who publish photos
on the internet saying these are
their own art.
PENUP encourages creativity,
so it is fair that publishing art
made by AI is not allowed
but if it is allowed, at least,
a specific space could be created
for this purpose.
Furthermore , I would really like to
thank you PENUP team for
the opportunity, I feel happy
to be part of this community
with incredible artists.
I want to thank all my dear friends
for their support,
especially @Laporte, @Branka,
@Helgi, @MissyJ and @Jess-again.
How was the interview with @Andreia?
Berthe Morisot is said to have
focused on honest expressions of
the emotions and experiences
she put into her works.
Similarly, @Andreia expressed
a range of different emotions and
inspiration using the experiences
she saw and felt herself.
If you've read our interview with @Andreia, why not give your own
go at expressing various themes
using light and shadow and try
imbuing various emotions in them?
We think you’ll have fun capturing
the extraordinary light and shadow
of everything in our world, from
nature to people, animals,
and objects.
We’d love to see everyone's work
capturing the magic created by
changes in light and shadow
on PENUP this month.
