[Challenge] 2024. June : Let's draw Monkey

Monkeys refer to animals
of the mammalian primate order.

Some examples include the Mandrill,
known for its red nose and
blue cheeks, the elegant and
gorgeous-looking Diana Monkey,
and there’s the Proboscis Monkey
with a distinct nose.

Monkeys come in a wide variety of
sizes as well.
On one end, you have the Gorilla
that can weigh up to 270kg,
whereas the Pygmy Marmoset weighs
only 150g.

Some have tails while others don’t.
The Leaf Monkey has a tail
that’s twice its body length,
but the Loris has no tail
to speak of.
You may have also seen monkeys
that look like foxes or lions, and,
of course, there’s the Chimpanzee
that looks and behaves similarly to
human beings.

Our second challenge in June is
about the 'Monkey,'
an animal often called
the gardeners of the forest.

Scientists believe monkeys
and humans diverged from
a common ancestor.

They say that monkeys and humans
share similar physical
characteristics, such as their
faces, hands, and feet,
and they also have many similarities
in their social behavior
and expressions.

This is said to be because
over the course of evolution,
our common ancestor split into
monkeys and orangutans,
and then evolved back into humans.

The coccyx and muscles that are
rarely used in the human body are
evidence of our evolution from
primate ancestors.

Most monkeys have tails.

Having a tail helps monkeys
stay balanced and move safely
when climbing up high places, and
a tail is also useful when hanging
from branches or grabbing objects.

Moreover, some monkeys use
their tails to communicate with
other animals or express their
emotions.

So it might be fun to draw how
you’d imagine monkeys would use
their tails.

Monkeys are animals that appear
frequently in mythology and
culture.

In Hinduism, monkeys are considered
sacred beings, and in Buddhist
scriptures, monkeys often appear
as symbols of mercy and wisdom.

Son Wukong, the protagonist in
the Chinese novel Journey to the
West, is perhaps the most famous
monkey in the world, and it also
had a massive impact on various
media.

What comes to your mind when you
think of a monkey?

From various species of monkeys
living in nature to imagining
their diverse characteristics
capture the appearance of monkeys
and challenge yourself in this
challenge!

This will be proceeded for 15 days.
from June. 16, Sun (GMT)
to June. 30, Sun (GMT).

The challenge is running based
on GMT.

Therefore, the start and end times
differ depending on time zone
of each country, so please refer to
GMT time when uploading your work.

We look forward to your
participation and amazing works!

Thank you.
