We asked you to draw something about ‘Shadow’, which we understand as
something that always appears
on the other side of light,
for our second challenge in April.
First, we will introduce the winners
of this challenge through a video.

And we did get a variety of pieces
that approached the subject of
shadows from all sorts of different
angles.
We had shadows cast by
various objects, we saw some shadow
puppetry, and we also had other
pictures capturing specific
attributes of a shadow.
All in all, we had a great time
dreaming about a number of different
shadows.
Thank you to everyone

The first one here has cats in
a dark alley.
One cat in the shadow is raising
his paw and smiling mischievously.
The dark night full of shadows
seems like the perfect time for
a black cat to be roaming around.

Next, we have streaks of sunlight
filtering into a room.
If you follow the light, you’ll see
objects inside the room slowly
emerge from the darkness.
You’ll see their outlines
in the shadows.
Once the remaining candles go out,
all of the light will disappear
from the room, and with it
the shadows will soon disappear
as well.

Here we see two people skating on
ice, and it appears they’re looking
at each other.
The woman is taking a step closer
to the man.
Although they’re both shrouded
in their own shadows, the backdrop
of trees dusted with sparkling white
snow and a red sunset makes
the whole scene romantic, and
we just know they’re looking at each
other with loving eyes.

A young kitten is looking at a city
full of buildings from an alley.
With the way the city bathed in
bright light and overlaid with
blurry shadows, it almost looks like
a mirage.
The kitten might be dreaming about
one day growing up as big as
its own shadow and heading to
the city for adventure.

In our next picture, we have a man
walking through the forest in
the dark of night.
Over his head, there seems to be a
terrifying monster almost
threatening to attack him.
Looking at the shadow stretching
behind the man, it's probably just
some branches criss-crossed in a way
that makes them look scary.

A cat is looking at a couple of
bird-like shadows.
The light shines on the bird
puppets, and then casts shadows that
look like birds flying in the sky.
The cat, which had been lying down
on one side, is looking at the paper
and shadows with curious eyes.
Just look at the concentration!
It might just be ready to pounce
and catch those birds.

This picture has a man with light
shining from one side of his face.
The light makes it look like
he almost has two faces.
The facial expression created by
the light and shadows make it feel
like he’s exuding different emotions
from each side of his face.
I wonder what he’s really feeling
and thinking inside.

Someone is holding their hands above
the girl’s head.
The intrigued look on her face
suggests that she’s curious about
why the person behind her might be
holding their hands like that.
Perhaps if she could look
behind her, she’d be surprised by
her own shadow looking like
a massive deer.

The dappling sunlight is giving
the forest here a different look.
It filters through the trees,
creating golden shadows that
look like leaves.
The sun casts a long,
brilliant shadow over the flowing
river, producing a magical forest
scenery that hints at the mysteries
and secrets hidden behind it.

And finally, we have two people
making shadows with their hands.
The two crossed hands are creating
the overall silhouette of the bird,
and the branches with leaves
and fruit are carefully arranged
to recreate the feathers and beak.
The shadow is made to look like
a dove signalling for peace.
