Coloring was born for
educational purposes.

It was created to teach children,
and later, for studying drawing
and coloring, pictures of animals
and fairy tales were compiled
into books.

It became popular among adults
for stress relief and mental focus.
Now, it is not only recognized for
its psychological effects
but also esteemed as a tool for
creating artistic works.

In April's Hall of Fame,
artist @P.H.Y also captivates
our eyes with beautiful
and mysterious works utilizing
coloring templates.

On the artist's feed,
various coloring patterns
evoke numerous stories.

What was once mere lines gain
vitality through colors,
and the atmosphere shifts
depending on the subjects contained
within the space.

From fairy tales and comics to
the artist's imagination, a
diverse world of fantasy is
encapsulated, delivering various
inspirations from new narratives to
methods utilizing coloring.

We can't wait to ask about artworks
through an interview.

Now, let us begin
our interview with the artist.

Q1. @PENUP
Hello, @P.H.Y!
Greetings from all of us
at the PENUP team here.

First, congratulations on
being selected for the April 2024
Hall of Fame.
Can you quickly tell us about
yourself and how it feels to be
a Hall of Famer now?

A1. @P.H.Y
Hello, everyone!
I got the news on April 1st,
April Fool's Day, and the fact
that I still think I have a long way
to go made it hard to believe.
In any case, I thank everyone from
the bottom of my heart for
inducting me into the Hall of Fame.

P.H.Y is my daughter,
but I’m the one who uses the account
most of the time.
So, I’ll be the one answering
the questions in this interview.
I hope that’s okay with everyone
out there.

Q2. @PENUP
You uploaded your first piece
back in March 2022.

How did you find out about PENUP?
We’d love to know why you decided to
share your work on PENUP.

A2. @P.H.Y
When I got a phone with a stylus,
my daughter, P.H.Y started drawing
and coloring things in with PENUP.
Then, one day, she said,
“You try, mom.”
But because I never learned nor
liked drawing, it just went in
one year and out the other.

Sometime later, I discovered
this pretty coloring design.
so I tried coloring it,
and that felt really relaxing
I could see why people had
so much fun with drawing.
That’s when I started drawing
with my daughter, colored in
different patterns, which helped us
spend some quality time together
and share a hobby we can do
with one another.

Q3. @PENUP
We were able to see
various coloring works.

How did you find out about PENUP?
We’d love to know why you decided to
share your work on PENUP.

A3. @P.H.Y
I use an old Samsung Galaxy Note 10+
and PENUP is the only app I use.

Q4. @PENUP
We were able to see various and
creative artworks that added
imagination to coloring designs.

We’re curious about
the motivation behind your decision
to start drawing.

A4. @P.H.Y
At first, my daughter would scribble
things in PENUP, then I joined in
to draw things together like
a fun drawing game.
But now, I try to express
the feelings I want to convey to
my daughter with what I draw
and color.

Q5. @PENUP
We could see you've been using
various coloring templates to create
your artworks.

We're curious about
which coloring templates
you mainly use when drawing.

A5. @P.H.Y
I have loved clouds since
I was little and I look at them
every day.

You'll be fascinated by
the variety of shapes and colors and
no two clouds are alike.

I practiced desperately, hoping
that I could draw like others after
seeing the paintings of painters who
used clouds as the subject matter.

Q6. @PENUP
We were able to see artworks that
recreated scenes from fairy tales
using coloring templates.

We're curious about how you created
such pieces and where you drew
inspiration from.

A6. @P.H.Y
My daughter is still a kid and maybe
it's because I like cartoons
and fairy tales, but when I see
a coloring design or pattern
I really like, I feel like drawing
and adding something to it.

My daughter also has an aunt
who hasn’t used PENUP for a while
because she’s been so busy,
but she’s a designer
who draws things all the time.
She’s my older sister.
I think I do get some inspiration
from her as well.

And my daughter and I get a lot of
great ideas looking at some of
the wonderful work done by @Hyun,
who is one of our favorite artists.

Q7. @PENUP
We saw artworks with
beautiful expressions and coloring.

When coloring such designs,
do you have any specific focus
or approach to expressions
and color arrangements?

A7. @P.H.Y
I've never learned how to draw,
so I don't know anything about
coloring or painting.
I learn from books and the internet,
I try doing what others are doing.
And most of the time,
I try to use cute and bright colors
that my daughter and other children
might like.
I use one color, erase it,
then try another color
to find colors that match.

Q8. @PENUP
We've seen various artworks
besides coloring, including
characters and objects.

We're curious about how you create
such pieces and if there are
any specific artworks you'd like to
try drawing in the future.

A8. @P.H.Y
Since I only do coloring,
sometimes my PENUP friends ask me
to draw something from scratch.

I know it’s probably not enough to
show how much I appreciate the love
and support I get but the one
on the left is the one I used for
the remix.
On the right is when I drew
the baby gown and mittens
my daughter used to wear
when she was little to take part in
that month’s challenge.

Going forward, I want to produce
a variety of things by coloring
the patterns posted every day
on PENUP in ways that feel
differently from other existing
pieces, and add drawings of my own
that match each pattern.

If my skills improve enough,
I’d also love to try my hand at
drawing landscapes, people,
and objects.

Q9. @PENUP
The profile mentions drawing
with your mother and using PENUP
with other family members.

How have these activities
influenced your artwork,
and are there any memorable pieces
created with your family on PENUP?

A9. @P.H.Y
As I mentioned,
I have an older sister
who is taking a break from PENUP.
I got so much help from her on
how to draw and choose colors
that match.

I remember the shark I drew for
a PENUP challenge when my sister
and I had a friendly competition
going in the beginning.

Q10. @PENUP
Last question.
Please tell us
improvements or comments
you want to share with us
while using PENUP.

A10. @P.H.Y
Perhaps because I mostly do
coloring, I kept thinking that
it would be nice to have
the various tools and functions
you can use in drawing in coloring
as well.
Also, I thought it would be nice to
have a text tool because I'm not
that good at writing neatly.

Thank you for helping me
have a great time through PENUP,
and I personally think I was chosen
for the Hall of Fame
because I really worked hard.
I’ll continue to work hard on
my drawing and have a fun time
doing it.

And I’d like to thank
all of my PENUP friends
who have shown their love
and support for P.H.Y.

How was the interview with
@P.H.Y?

Coloring, with its combination of
colors and patterns among other
elements, is an artistic activity
that stimulates creativity, allowing
one to create their own style.

Similarly, the author incorporates
their thoughts into coloring and,
through evolving works, expresses
their emotions, unveiling diverse
imaginary worlds.

For those of you reading this,
why not try creating new works
through various coloring activities?

It seems enjoyable to color
daily-updated designs, adding your
imagination to create new pieces.

We hope PENUP is filled with
a variety of colors through
everyone's work.

Thank you.
