A shadow is a dark area that appears
when light shines on an object.
Depending on where the light is
shining from, a shadow can become
long, short, or distorted,
and various objects can overlap to
create a completely different
shadow.
Also, depending on the transparency
or color of the object, shadows
can be light, dark, or even colored
in some cases.
A shadow could form along
the curvature of the landscape,
creating a majestic scenery, or
it might create a different,
gloomy or dreamy atmosphere.
The second challenge for April is
about 'Shadow,'
a unique picture created by light.

It is said that the moon and stars
can cast shadows as well.
We all know the moon shines bright
enough to cast a shadow,
but even some starlight can
create shadows, too.
Especially in the case of Venus,
it’s bright enough to
create a shadow at times,
and the Milky Way, where we see
the stars in our galaxy, can create
shadows depending on the surrounding
environment.
However, if you live in the city,
you’ll have a hard time spotting
shadows created by the moon or stars
due to all the light pollution
around you.

Meanwhile, some shadows are used
in plays and other works of art.
In the case of plays,
hands or objects are used to create
shadows in the shape of people,
animals, or still objects.
In other forms of art,
shadows can be created using
materials to create unique scenes
people wouldn’t have imagined
by looking at a particular material
itself.
So, we think you might have
a great time drawing shadows created
with hands or various objects.

Shadows have various images as well.
Shadows are often used as
an element to project
the artist's thoughts or
the artist's current state of being
because it gives the feeling of
being hidden while definitely
existing.
At the same time,
since they appear on the other side
of the light, shadows often conjure
up images of a hidden hand helping
the protagonist or evil forces
lurking in the dark.
What kind of shadow comes to
your mind when you hear the word
'Shadow'?
Take on our latest challenge by
