[Challenge] 2026. March : Let's draw Mountain
PENUP Main banner

A mountain is a high and sloping landform.

From volcanoes formed by erupting magma, to tall and rugged mountains created by the pressure of the Earth’s crust, there are also cliffs formed by land splitting apart and mountains with gentle ridgelines.

Depending on the rocks that form them, mountains may appear red or black, and they can also be colored in various shades by the grasses and trees that grow on them.

In addition, their colors change with the seasons, turning green, red, or white as the environment changes.

The theme of the second challenge in March is ‘Mountain’, a place often called the beginning and end of all natural landscapes.

Mountains are home to diverse ecosystems.

As altitude increases, the temperature changes, and in the lower regions, broadleaf trees along with various animals and insects form rich ecosystems.

In high mountain regions, coniferous trees grow, and animals often evolve thicker fur and stronger bodies suited for climbing steep terrain.

Animals such as the snow leopard, yak, and Tibetan fox are well-known for living in and adapting to high-altitude environments.

Mountains are formed through both internal and external processes of the Earth.

When tectonic plates push against or pull apart from each other, steep mountain ranges such as the Himalayas can be created.

When magma erupts, cools, and accumulates, cone-shaped mountains form, and when rain, wind, and glaciers erode the land over time, the mountains become rounder and more gentle in shape.

It may be enjoyable to draw mountains with these various landforms.
