Ivan Aivazovsky, a Russian artist, was known for frequently depicting scenes where the sky meets the sea.
By delicately capturing the changing colors of the sky and ocean depending on the light, he expressed the dramatic moments created by nature.
In his works, the shifting skies and light convey the passage of time, offering the joy of observing and connecting with nature.
Likewise, @grgm, the artist selected for the January Hall of Fame, captures the dramatic beauty of nature through the changing colors of the sky.
Artist @grgm, known for creating beautiful landscapes, uploaded their first artwork to PENUP in December 2018.
After discovering PENUP while using the Galaxy Note 8, the artist began using the app to enjoy coloring as a way to relax and relieve everyday stress.
Later, after experiencing the Live drawing feature, they felt inspired to try drawing landscapes and started uploading their own original artworks.
Currently, they continue to pursue their artistic journey using only the Galaxy S25 Ultra and PENUP.
Now, shall we hear from @grgm about their works through this interview?
Q1. @PENUP
Hello, @grgm.
This is the PENUP team.
On behalf of everyone at the PENUP team, we’d like to congratulate you on being inducted into our Hall of Fame in January 2026.
Please briefly introduce yourself and share your thoughts on being selected.
A1. @grgm
Hi PENUP!
First of all, thank you so much for selecting me for the Hall of Fame.
I’m from El Salvador.
Seeing the notification was an amazing surprise, I honestly never imagined I would be part of the Hall of Fame.
This recognition truly means a lot to me, and I’m very grateful for the opportunity.
Thank you again!
Q2. @PENUP
We were able to see artworks depicting a wide variety of landscapes.
What made you start drawing?
A2. @grgm
When I was a kid, I always wanted to learn how to draw landscapes, but I never really had the opportunity to do so.
Over the years, I set that dream aside.
It wasn’t until I discovered PENUP that I felt the desire to try again and finally start drawing the landscapes I had always imagined.
Q3. @PENUP
We were able to see many impressive landscapes featuring beautifully colored skies.
We’re curious why you choose to paint these kinds of scenes.
We’d also love to know what you find most appealing about the sky.
A3. @grgm
I’ve always been drawn to drawings and photos of sunsets, sunrises, starry nights, full moons, and skies filled with clouds in different colors, especially during sunsets.
The very first Live Drawing I tried was a sunset over a lake, and I was truly hooked when I saw the final result.
From that moment on, I kept using the tips from that section and started creating these scenes in my own way.
What I find most appealing about the sky is how it’s always changing and how it can express so many different moods and emotions.
Q4. @PENUP
We were also able to appreciate artworks that capture the beauty created by various horizons in harmony with the sky.
We’re curious about what led you to start creating these kinds of works.
A4. @grgm
I started creating these kinds of works as I continued drawing landscapes and skies.
I found that combining the horizon with the sky helps create balance and a sense of calm.
Over time, this became a natural part of my style.
Q5. @PENUP
We were also able to see silhouettes of various figures within the landscapes.
We’re curious about what kinds of figures you choose to depict.
And what do you hope to express through them?
A5. @grgm
I don’t usually have a fixed idea when I start drawing.
I first create the landscape, and then I think about what kind of figures would fit best in that scene, whether animals or people.
Q6. @PENUP
Please let us know if there is anything you would like to see improved while using PENUP, or if there is anything you would like to say.
A6. @grgm
I believe PENUP has been consistently updating and improving the app over the past few years, and those improvements are clearly noticeable.
For that reason, I’d like to thank the team for always working to enhance the user experience.
Please keep up the great work.
How did you enjoy the interview with @grgm?
This is the artwork the artist wanted to share with all PENPLEs.
The artist chose this piece because it was created in honor of two beloved dogs who passed away a year ago.
In addition, the artist left the following message for all PENPLEs.
I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout these years, as well as all the amazing artists who make this app a place full of creativity and inspiration.
You motivate many of us to keep learning, growing, and improving every day.
Please continue to support @grgm and their wonderful works.
Thank you.
