Pointillism is a painting technique that uses dots to create drawings.
Artists express visual colors by placing dots of different tones, or arrange them scientifically according to color theory.
Through the size and color of the dots, artists convey their emotions and energy, and sometimes use short lines or brush strokes instead of dots.
Besides brushes, pens, sponges, or stamps can also be used, and in digital art, pixels are used to create works.
The first challenge theme of November is ‘Pointillism’, the art of beautiful paintings created by countless dots.
Pointillism is said to have started from the limitations of Impressionism.
It aimed to move beyond the spontaneous expression of Impressionism and reproduce light and color systematically on the canvas.
Through this, Georges Seurat completed the first pointillist painting, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte.
The work, created by the vibration of light, color contrast, and visual blending, is regarded as a meeting of science and art.
It is also said that the mood of Pointillism changes depending on the dots.
Small dots create a delicate and smooth impression, while large dots give a lively and abstract feeling.
Brightness and depth change depending on spacing, and density gives weight or changes the rhythm and impression of the painting.
It would be fun to create your own works with different moods using various kinds of dots.
Modern Pointillism is expanding into various fields.
In digital art, unique brushes or pixels are used to create works full of texture, emotion, and individuality.
Also, rather than scientific principles, abstraction and emotion are emphasized.
Artists add texture through lines and strokes, or even create unique three-dimensional and installation works.
What kind of Pointillism comes to your mind?
From works using dots, lines, and touches, to pixel art made with PENUP brushes, try creating your own Pointillism and join the challenge.
This will be proceeded for 15 days.
From November. 1, Sat. (GMT) to November. 15, Sat. (GMT).
The challenge is running based on GMT.
Therefore, the start and end times differ depending on time zone of each country, so please refer to GMT time when uploading your work.
