[Challenge] 2025. October : Let's draw Halloween
PENUP Main banner

Every year on October 31, the Halloween festival takes place.

Homes and shops are decorated with jack-o’-lanterns, and children dress up in costumes, going door to door to receive candy.

Families and friends come together for parties, parades, and street festivals.

Theme parks meanwhile create a Halloween atmosphere and run special events.

The second challenge theme of October is ‘Halloween’, a day believed to be when the spirits of the dead return.

It is said that Halloween began about 2,000 years ago.

The Celts regarded October 31 as the end of the year and held a festival to honor death and spirits, which became the origin of Halloween.

As it merged with Christian culture, the name ‘Halloween’ was born, and the custom of visiting homes to offer prayers or songs in exchange for food turned into today’s Trick-or-Treat.

It became a popular festival in the United States through immigrants and later spread across the world.

On Halloween, various festivals are held around the world.

In Ireland, the birthplace of Halloween, traditional festivals take place, while in Derry, Northern Ireland, parades and performances are held.

Also, in Salem, USA, famous for its witch legends, and in many cities worldwide, Halloween events take place.

It would be fun for you to imagine and draw the kind of Halloween festival you would like to visit.

The Halloween festival is said to be growing larger.

It has become a global festival, merging with digital culture to create diverse content, while participatory events like haunted experiences and movies are also increasing.

In addition, unique festivals combined with each country’s traditions are emerging, and with the tourism industry, they are developing into experiential events.

So, what kind of Halloween comes to mind for you?

From past to present, from festivals you wish to visit to those born of imagination, express the many faces of Halloween in your artwork and join the challenge.
