[Challenge] 2025. October : Let's draw Red
PENUP Main banner

Red is a color that brings life and energy.

It is found in fruits such as apples, strawberries, cherries, and tomatoes, and in flowers and plants like roses and autumn leaves.

Animals like flamingos, crabs, goldfish, and foxes carry this color as well, and we also see it in sunsets and lava landscapes.

Around us, it can easily be spotted in objects such as fire extinguishers and mailboxes, and it often appears in cosmetics, clothes, and shoes.

The first challenge theme for October is ‘Red’, the color of passion and love.

Red is said to be the first color ever used by humankind.

In prehistoric times, red ochre and hematite were used in paintings to represent hunting and protection.

Later, because of its expensive pigments, it was a symbol of kings, nobles, and gods and remained so for a long time.

Only in modern times, with the development of synthetic dyes, did red become widely accessible and used in many fields.

Red can be easily found in nature.

It appears in sunsets, red earth, and stones, traces that express the passage of time and change.

Frogs, mushrooms, and insects use red to give warnings of danger, while plants bear red fruits or blossoms to attract animals.

Drawing the reds of nature that come to your mind will surely be an enjoyable experience.

In artworks, red carries many meanings.

It has been a symbol of authority and divinity, as well as a color of passion and love, anger and danger.

It has also been used to create strong visual impact, to express intention powerfully, and to heighten emotions through dramatic contrasts of light and shade.

So, what kind of red comes to your mind right now?

From the reds found in nature and in our daily lives to those born purely of imagination, let’s bring them into your artwork and join this challenge!
